Spinal Adjustments
Spinal adjustments, as it's name indicates, is an adjustment of the human skeleton, particularly of the spine and extremity joints, to relieve musculoskeletal pain, reduce tension, normalize the nervous system, and improve the mobility of joints. The idea behind spinal manipulation is that when the vertebrae are subluxated (misaligned and/or malfunctioning), the resulting pressure on nerves can have negative effects on organ system function and general health, in addition to impeding proper joint motion.
A vertebral subluxation can negatively affect general health by altering the proper circulation of information via the nervous system. Although not always painful, a subluxation interferes with the proper function and healing of your body due to the role of the nervous system as a controller of many bodily functions.
A vertebral subluxation can affect a spinal disc (i.e. degenerative disc disease), a section of the spine, or the entire spine. For example, a functional scoliosis or abnormal curvature of the spine, viewed in chiropractic terms, may be due to a subluxation of one vertebra that causes a distortion of the entire spine.
